After the disappointment last time out at home to Toulouse and with a few days to reflect Rovers fans were eager to see their heroes back on the park against top of the table Leigh Centurions.
With Johnny Grayshon returning alongside Iain Morrison in the 2nd Row up front and Jon Steel returning on the flank at the expense of Zak Hardaker the side showed a couple of changes this week with the bench being occuppied by Dane Manning, Andy Kain, Ross Divorty and Tim Spears.
Leigh probably shaded the opening exchanges with Robbie Paul directing operations in midfield but Rovers managed to strike early Johnny Grayshon making the most of a Liam Finn chip to catch and stretch over and put us on the board, Kyle adding the extras 0-6 and a penalty midway through the half left us handily placed at 0-8 a Leigh repost after a penalty with Mick Nanyn missing the conversion sent us in 4-8 at half time after a sustained spell of Leigh pressure.
Rovers needed to re assert themselves in the game and wow did they do that a long range effort involving Ian Hardman a Liam Finn Chip, Andy Kain and Ross Divorty saw Liam Welham squeeze in wide out - an excellent Kyle coversion again put daylight between the sides.
Leigh reduced the arrears almost immediately with a Mick Nanyn conversion again it was all to play for, but Rovers had plenty in the tank and Jon Grayshon stepped up to claim his 2nd of the evening.
Leigh knocked hard on the door once again, but Rovers were up to the task and finally broke down field after a "money ball" from Kyle Briggs sent Jesse Joe striding in to settle Rovers nerves and clinch a very hard earned victory.
A Leigh penalty and a late try meant that the home side took a bonus point late on but tonight was a memorable one for Daryl Powell's travelling 'barmy army' as the Blue and White stormed back to the top of the Championship.
A tremendous watch for Rovers fans, a fantastic result to a great game of Rugby League played by 2 evenly matched sides, tonight was our night, but with many twists and turns to come the return fixture later in the season will have a big say in how the back end of the season shapes up.
